OOH —The Carolina’s Convention

OOH —NCOAA – OAASC Annual Convention 2018
OOH Today is attending the joint Convention of the North Carolina and the South Carolina Outdoor Advertising Associations here in beautiful Asheville and at the nationally known, century old resort hotel, The Grove Park Inn.
It is a fabulous venue to hold an Out of Home (#OOH) conference and as we are discovering first hand, the warmth and friendliness of the attendees and association members are as welcoming as any we have ever participated.
Every detail has been covered for the event, from the professionally printed large format programs with welcoming comments of NCOAA President, Bobby Soule, a complete easy to follow Schedule, and a list of speakers with complete bios and photos, to a fuzzy warm welcome at registration, great food and drink, entertainment and evening ending welcome back return. Southern hospitality lives in Asheville and the Carolinas and its only day one.
The day started with a golf tournament at the Hotel’s historic golf course built in 1926. Golf greats Hogan, Varden, Snead, Nicklaus, and Palmer have played there. For a short 6300 yard mountain course, it was challenging. The rich history, superior course conditions and Blue Ridge views were fabulous. Made one forget their inferior stroke making.
After golf, it was on to a Vendor sponsored welcome reception. Then the evening’s events took us on the La Zoom Brewery Bus Band Tour! By bus on a brewery tour to some of Asheville’s top micro brews. As much as one dislikes a bus ride, the four piece live band on board and rocking out funk at every mile with craft beers in hand, was a rollicking, fun time. Attendees photos and names are being withheld. We’ll leave it say, this group enjoys their music!
Back to the Grove Park Inn, for a post ‘beer tour’ cocktail and traditional late night ad hoc meeting of the “Committee To Solve Any OOH Issues Imagined or Real.” It was a late night.
When was the last time you went to an OOH convention and the entire day first day was filled with social events?
October 16 was a fully engaged fun day, catching up with old friends and making new acquaintances. When was the last time you went to an OOH convention and the entire day first day was filled with social events? Maybe never for me. The opportunity to network, connect and spend quality time with many, rather than when time limits, with only a few, is a welcomed change of formats. A decided two thumbs up.
It changes the dynamics of a convention to a more intimate and friendlier setting.

Today, October 17 starts the kickoff of the Educational Sessions featuring 6 speakers in 6 separate sessions. We’ll report their comments and discussion Thursday, in our OOH Today news/blog October 18.
