When 500 Million Monthly is Not Enough
Live From New York, Times, It's "The Daily", Now Out of Home
The New York Times produces a superior podcast called “The Daily”, 5 days a week, 20 minutes per day. It started last year and is already up to 5 million monthly unique listeners. The current 5 million count is not enough, they are seeking a larger audience and using Out of Home to get there. The Times is promoting “The Daily”, via local TV and Out of Home in 3 markets; Los Angeles, Portland, Oregon and Chicago.
The OOH campaign started yesterday, Sunday, July 15, with billboard bulletins and a wallscape domination in Los Angeles; light rail wrap in Portland’s Metro (OR); and a station domination of the Ogilvie Transportation Center, which is the second busiest rail station in Chicago and represented by Clear Channel Outdoor.
It’s too early for photos at this writing, here are examples of the art as digital execution of the campaign via the NY Times and can be found here.
For perspective on podcast audience data, NPR has 16.9 million+, WNYC Studios (2 NYC Public Radio Stations) and 4 others at 5 million+ including the NY Times.
The Times’s brand marketing team worked with creative agency Gretel on the campaign. We are not aware of who placed it. Check with Gretel. Their contact info is below.
