In recent years, GCG Media Services has served as a guiding force on some of Times Square’s largest digital media “spectaculars,” as well as on other large-format outdoor installations at retail, cultural, sports, and public facilities across the United States.

We had the opportunity to speak to Matthew Knee, the Project Management Specialist at GCG Media. Knee has been in the Out of Home business since 2006, and has been instrumental in sign development and installation for GCG Media Services. He shared some of his insights into working for them:

Will Farmer: Please tell us about GCG Marketing. How long have you been in business? Staffing? Size? Specialties? Billing? Regional Offices?

Matthew Knee: GCG Media Services was founded in 2009 as Gryphon Capital Group, LLC initially as a holding company for certain media assets.  Over the past 11 years we have become a Media Services provider.  Our clients are landlords, sign operators and maintenance companies who we add a layer of versatility and expertise to for new sign builds, LED conversions, management, revenue solutions, content management and IT solutions.  We are headquartered in New York City, billed a little over $700k from formal launch in June, 2019 to December, 2019.  I am full-time and have two extremely talented consultants, one who is a real estate attorney and the other who hails from the agency world.

WF: What would you like brands and the OOH Industry to know about your shop?

MK: GCG Media Services oversees all aspects of digital and static sign projects. We work to implement procedures and platforms that allow owners to maximize returns on their signage assets. From choosing the right engineering, manufacturing and installation firms, to supervising the on-site installation crews, content management systems and media/brand partnerships in order to guarantee that the finished projects surpass all expectations.

WF: Do you work with clients directly and/or through agencies? What is the percentage breakdown?

MK: We mostly work with clients directly.

WF: Any comments or suggestions for OOH reps in approaching or working with your company?

MK: If anyone feels that they have a need for our services, a synergy or any questions, we are happy to have a conversation. We are approachable and passionate about the out-of-home industry!

WF: What is your most memorable new business pitch?

MK: Covid-19 has redefined how we have all been working as an industry. While we love face to face interactions, the GCG team has been busy mastering providing our clients that same feeling of care and commitment virtually. When site visits are a must, we are always masked up.

WF: What differentiates your business from others?

MK: Versatility. The out-of-home industry, as a whole, does not typically lend itself to large staffs of people in a given company aside from a few of the major operators who specialize in media and signage assets only. While there are many project managers, etc., there is a very niche group of people who specialize in the entire life cycle of a media asset. Given the tremendous impact that these assets can have on an overall project’s revenue and success, it is imperative to have a team in place, such as GCG Media Services who have the experience and knowledge to execute efficiently. 

WF: How do you obtain new business?

MK: A lot of our business comes by word of mouth. We work on many projects with engineers, manufacturers and installation firms who recommend us to their clients, sign owners and operators. We recently worked on a project for a major NYC real estate company which has opened many doors for us.
