Short and Umami

OOH …Here’s One Thing

by Jim Johnsen,
Managing Director, Johnsen, Fretty & Company

Three Things this week.  Short and Umami.  (I saved you the trouble:  Umami Definition & Meaning – Merriam-Webster)

First, a perfect song match-up to Vistar’s incredible news:

‘I’ve come across the desert to

greet you with a smile

My camel looks so tired, it’s hardly

worth my while

To tell you of my travels across

the golden East

I see your preparations invite me

first to feast…

Take me, I’m yours
Because dreams are made of this
Forever there’ll be a heaven in your kiss”  (Squeeze)

Now is that perfect or is that perfect?  I know Michael Provenzano and his team worked incredibly hard over the past 14 years, faced a pretty serious climb for a number of years, and I am sure that there were many dark moments along the way, which makes the outcome oh so much sweeter (not umami!).  Hats off Michael to you, and your team.  You created almost as much value as Foster & Kleiser at the time of sale…and that took almost 100 years!

…Okay, second, a short clip from the throwback machine, as a contrast to the Vistar news and to remind you (in case you are too young to remember these days) that the industry has come a long way baby!

A big shout out to Chris Schifano for sharing this one with me.

And, last but not least, a quote from this week Barron’s Magazine (pg 32):

“Trump unusually represents the three states of risk and opportunity that influence stock prices and options volatility.  He is at once a known known, a known unknown and an unknown unknown…”

Anyone else like that statement as much as me?

Lest you fret, Bo Diddley has got the answer.  I will let him outtake us to another wild and woolly week in outdoor world.

Look forward to seeing you out there.
