Sitting on OOH’s Public Private Partnerships

PPPs and a Place to Sit
“We subside the bejeesus out of driving and let airlines spew emissions for free, yet bus riders can sit on the curb.”
by Lynn Terlaga, Municipal Affairs at COA – Partnering with municipalities and transit authorities to provide cost-free infrastructure.
Public–private partnerships (PPPs) have been around for decades. Expanding public-private partnerships were initially for cost-cutting. They are still an efficient and effective way for municipalities to get infrastructure projects funded and built.
A partnership can free up leadership’s time and public funds for other projects. It allows them to focus their attention and resources on other, more pressing areas without the distractions and complications that can occur. Building out bus stops may best be left with companies with a proven track record and whose business it is.
Municipalities avoid all the costs involved. This includes the purchase of the benches themselves, concrete pads, installation, regular maintenance, (this includes vandalism repair and graffiti removal) insurance, and replacement and repairs as needed. The estimated savings are significant.
Municipalities also benefit from COA’s indemnification and the assumption of risk and responsibility for the construction and operational side of the project.
COA has been in the business for almost 40 years, and we are currently partnering with over 400 municipalities across North America. We provide a hassle-free public space seating partnership that is both cost-free and maintenance-free. We provide outstanding aesthetics, and superior engineering for ADA-accessible seating options that enhance the overall ambiance of public spaces.
Modern infrastructure projects, and even bus benches, require effective planning, financing, procurement, installation, and an ongoing maintenance and repair plan. A COA partnership may deliver better use of municipal resources and timely benefits to the end users, our bus riders. If you are frustrated with the infrastructure costs, installation costs, manpower, and maintenance issues needed to build out or operate bus benches, maybe it’s time for your city or town to explore a Public Private Partnership.
