For today’s Fast Fact, let’s take a look at the 2nd-largest city in Texas (just ahead of Dallas) and 7th-largest city in the US – the San Antonio market!
Of course, San Antonio is famously the home of The Alamo – but did you know that it is also home to several other historical landmarks? One such example is the San Fernando Cathedral, one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States! In fact, it is the oldest continuously-functioning religious community in all of Texas.
Several major attractions, such as SeaWorld, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the famous River Walk call San Antonio home, as do several professional sports teams. Interestingly, San Antonio is not currently home to an NFL team. The city’s Alamodome, opened in 1993, was built with the intention of attracting an NFL team to the city. However, local favorites the San Antonio Spurs called the Alamodome home from 1993 to 2002, and have returned multiple times since then, setting attendance records more than once!
Let’s take a look at the newest geekOUT market infographic for the San Antonio DMA.Based on the statistics in the above infographic, the average age in the DMA is 36, which is two years below the national average! In this market, a vast majority of commuters drive themselves to work, and over 1 in 10 people carpool. This DMA has an average commute time of roughly half an hour.
There is an especially wide variety of industries utilizing OOH in this market, when looking at the top categories of OOH Spenders. Several legal and financial service industries are represented here – however, it is the food sector that sees the largest share of OOH spend in this market. Both QSR and casual dining restaurants make use of OOH in the market, as do local beer and beverage retailers!
