NOVUS MEDIA People Moves
Melony Rios promoted to CEO, David Murphy to Executive Chair, Dawn Lamm as CFO
CHICAGO—NOVUS Media LLC announced today a series of changes that further positions it as a leading local media agency. Melony Rios has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer, replacing David Murphy, who has been named Executive Chairman. In addition, Dawn Lamm has joined NOVUS as Chief Financial Officer. Rob Davis continues as President and Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing the recently launched multimedia division NOVUS NEXT, and Debbie Drutz continues as President of NOVUS Canada.
Murphy said, “These moves are the culmination of two years of strategic planning, talent acquisitions, and technology investments to give our clients competitive advantage through the innovative use of data-driven local media.”
Rios has played a key role on the executive team for the last five years, most recently as President of NOVUS’ US division. Her 20 years of NOVUS experience include leadership and oversight of over 150+ clients, including three global holding companies and brands like Dell Computers, Walgreens, Home Depot and Walmart. She was also responsible for overhauling the company’s organizational structure to more effectively support three lines of business, drive purpose-driven growth and to streamline NOVUS’ North American operations. Before joining NOVUS, Rios worked for Target Corporation and NSA Media.
Lamm joins NOVUS from space150, Inc., an independent brand agency network with offices in New York, California and Minnesota. As CFO, she managed financial operations, human resources, real estate and facilities. Before joining space150, Lamm held various positions at Fallon Group (part of Publicis Groupe), including CFO from 2008-2018. In that role, she was responsible for strategic planning, financial statements and reporting, contract negotiations, client profitability analysis, and business modeling and budgeting.
Rios said, “Dawn is an all-star addition to our team. She has impeccable agency financial management credentials, including experience negotiating mutually beneficial contracts with some of North America’s biggest and most prestigious brands. We are thrilled to welcome her aboard.”
Murphy went on to note that, “Perhaps the most critical area of a CEO’s responsibility is to build the company’s leadership team. Melony will be partnering closely with Dawn, Rob and Debbie to continue to support the core existing business while turbo charging growth in the multimedia arena.”
Indeed, NOVUS has been on a growth spurt as of late across a wide spectrum of new clients. In addition to winning multimedia co-op business for Wendy’s in partnership with Ansira earlier this year, they’ve taken on search and overall media planning and buying for Holiday Retirement communities, were awarded the print AOR for AARP, and recently picked up TV and radio assignments for a commercial real estate company and a regional jeweler.
When asked what has driven the winning streak, Rios replied, “The challenging environment in 2020 has caused a lot of clients to reevaluate their marketing and media, and question what really drives their business. More and more, we are helping marketers see the value of highly localized, highly customized plans that flexibly adapt to a host of geographically-driven factors, be it demographic shifts, or Covid breakouts.”
Murphy, who joined NOVUS in May 2009 as President of Sales and was named CEO seven months later, summed up the management changes by saying, “What is critical is to design a leadership team that fits the times, is diverse, has width and depth of management know-how, multi-media experience, and a shared culture of high performance –for employees and for customers. Melony’s ability to craft future strategies uniquely positions us to not only sustain our current business in a meaningful way, but aggressively innovate and scale NOVUS’ future revenue streams as we enter our next chapter of expanded growth. Melony is well prepared, is surrounded by great talent and has proven herself up to the task of leading our team into the future.”
