Throughout the rest of Women’s History Month—and now, beyond!—we at OOH Today will be exploring how each of the selections on our list of the Top 24 Women Who Drive Growth In Out-of-Home have made their mark on the industry. While OOH has long been seen as a male-dominated sphere, every one of these women is a symbol of how our industry can and must change—and each of them has an important story to tell.

Today, the focus of our Spotlight is Danielle Williamson, Vice President of Sales at Orange Barrel Media.

1) What advice would you give to other women moving up in OOH?

DW: Don’t be afraid to express a point of view or make informed decisions when they are needed. Being brave will provide value to the team and earn you respect.

2) How can the industry take a bigger slice of total ad spend?

DW: There’s power behind strategic collaboration among perceived competitors in the same industry. We should work together to understand what other mediums are doing and use those insights to maximize the appeal of OOH. Increasing share of spend for our industry should be a group effort.

3) What’s the most interesting part of your job?

DW: Interacting with so many people, all with different styles, strengths, and areas of expertise. There’s always something new to learn. That keeps me motivated and makes every day interesting.

4) When did you first know that this was the industry for you?

DW: I spent 12 years in Radio and TV before moving to OOH 13 years ago. I’ve been hooked ever since. OOH is unique – a multi-faceted business that merges real estate, architectural design, and advertising. It also contributes to a sense of place in cities and communities which other mediums don’t. I love that.

5) What’s the key to your success?

DW: I’m lucky to be surrounded by people who value collective success as much as their own. I have a CEO who respects my voice, am part of a leadership team that challenges me in the best way possible, work with an incredibly driven group of Sales professionals who root for each other every day and have collaborative advertising and agency partners who make our success possible.
