Throughout the rest of Women’s History Month, we at OOH Today will be exploring how each of the selections on our list of the Top 24 Women Who Drive Growth In Out-of-Home have made their mark on the industry. While OOH has long been seen as a male-dominated sphere, every one of these women is a symbol of how our industry can and must change—and each of them has an important story to tell.

Today, we will be spotlighting Sarah Maher, Vice President of Sales at do it outdoors media.

1) What advice would you give to other women moving up in OOH?

SM: Every day presents an opportunity to learn from our peers and executives – when you take advantage of that and are bold enough to add your perspective, you’ll be rewarded in growth. And don’t forget we’re all on the same team! Our success is shared and will play a role in advancements for generations to come.

2) What’s your golden rule for the workplace?

SM: Communication is key in a success for the company and for relationships amongst the organization. Pick up the phone, walk over to someone’s desk, jump on a video chat – don’t stay within an inbox. Respecting everyone’s perspective and actively listening will allow growth within yourself as well.

3) What’s the most interesting part of your job?

SM: No two days are ever the same! We’re constantly evolving and creating new, exciting ways to represent brands. Experiencing campaign success that is not only breaking barriers and industry standards but allows us to share deeper analysis in the consumer journey is exciting, but when I encounter a campaign live in market it’s even more rewarding.

4) When did you first know that this was the industry for you?

SM: In my first job I interviewed for a different department – after the HR Director met with me she suggested I consider a new opening in the OOH department – I’m so glad she did as I’ve never looked back! She is another great example of an awesome woman in the workplace!
