Clear Channel Outdoor wins big, billups doubles UK presence, and it’s time to submit for the OBIE’s again. A weekly recap of the top OOH stories you may have missed and colorful commentary from BB for the week ending November 16, 2024.

1. Clear Channel Outdoor Wins BIG!—One of the Nation’s Largest Roadside Collections of OOH Displays

The MTA, North America’s largest transportation network, and its Board of Directors has voted to award its roadside OOH advertising concession to Clear Channel Outdoor for 15 years starting November 1.

CCO is taking over all management, operations, and advertising sales for more than 250 roadside displays in the greater NY/NJ/CT Metro areas. CCO already has a great deal of inventory in the NY/NJ area including all ad signage at Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) airports, and inventory in Times Square.

B.B.’s Take: Big takeaway for CCO from OUT. Who’d a thunk it? CCO did.  Congrats! 

2. billups Doubles with OOH Agency Acquisition 

billups acquires mediabridge

billups has announced its acquisition of Mediabridge Global, a UK-based out-of-home media specialist. In doing so it has doubled its local presence in the market. This is billups’ fifth international acquisition in the last 15 months.

Mediabridge Global launched in 2020. The company has executed campaigns in more than 50 countries and has a roster of 30 active agencies representing more than 250 brands. They have a proprietary tech platform, BRIDGE, formerly known as bitposter, which provides automated access to the market, including live availability, dynamic planning, and business intelligence to optimize OOH media planning.

B.B.’s Take: billups keeps the foot on the gas pedal and lands a big fish in the UK!  Will the growth ever stop?  Ben Billups is still ‘young’. While he’s not just getting started, there is every reason to believe he’s building will continue for a long time. Congrats to the billups team.

3. OBIE Awards 2025 —Call for Entries

OAAA is now accepting submissions for the 83rd annual OBIE awards. Since 1942, the OBIE Awards have honored the best in the out-of-home industry. From complex, layered storytelling to simple, reductionist campaigns, these placements make audiences stop and take a look.

OAAA is also bringing back the Student OBIE awards for a second year. The final deadline for this year’s awards is December 31, 2024. Early bird pricing is available for entries through December 13.
