GeekOUT Fast Fact Friday
For today’s Fast Fact Friday, we wanted to continue our trend of analyzing the top OOH spenders in specific DMAs so our members are ready as their markets reopen. The data is sourced from Kantar and covers the OOH ad spend from January to March of 2020.
Our recent Fast Fact Friday articles have looked at Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Boston, highlighting the top OOH advertisers in these markets. However, for today, let’s take a look at the largest market in the US, the New York DMA.
At a glance, it may be surprising that a local government organization is the top spender in the DMA, with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene holding the top spot. This government organization is clearly utilizing OOH to spread their messages and reach the population all throughout the New York DMA!
Looking further down the list, “Media and Advertising” and “Financial” organizations make up the majority of the top OOH spenders. Of the “Media and Advertising” industry, Google, Facebook, HBO, CBS, and Warner Bros Pictures hold the second, fourth, sixth, ninth, and tenth spots on the list, respectively.
Facebook continues to stay consistent in buying OOH across the country, taking the fifth spot on the NY DMA top OOH spender list. Facebook is the largest OOH spender among digital companies nationwide, and is present on the top ten OOH spender lists across many markets.
