OOH …Here’s One Thing

So let’s say hypothetically (or maybe not so hypothetically) your best friend tells you he has a rare form of incurable brain cancer. With chemo and radiation the doctors may be able to buy him a few more months, if the chemo doesn’t kill him first. We all know someone close or far that has a similar story, no one is immune. I get it. Sure it’s sad and tragic, but we just go on, right? I mean what else can we do?
Besides a constant feeling of nausea and helplessness, this one really has me looking in. Here is a question I have been pondering for a week now. What if I only had another 15 days to live…what would I do with it? When it’s not an academic question, but one degree of separation, it really brings things into focus.
The answer that keeps coming back to me is that in life there are really only 2 universal answers to the question. Answer #1. Do what you love. Answer #2. If you can’t do what you love, love what you do. Anything short of #1 or #2 (or if you hit the trifecta, #1 and #2 combined) is the equivalent of burning Ben Franklins in the woods with the hopes of feeling some heat. Let me translate…it’s a waste.
Thanks Johnsen, but what’s the point? The point is…life is WAAAY too short to go to work one more Monday, hating life or your boss or the shit you have to do. So your assignment Mr. Phelps, if you choose to accept it, is to either get a new pair of glasses and look at everything from a much different angle, or go find somethings and somebodies that will make you happy. Now have at it!
