Emily LeBlanc, Associate Account Manager and Alexander Tardo, National Account Manager at Lamar Advertising Company presented to the American Marketing Association LSU Chapter about OOH and Lamar.

How many of you present to your local universities?  Presenting to the American Marketing Association chapter at a university as Emily and Alexander did above or to an advertising/marketing class or a graphics arts class, is vital to the growth of Out of Home.

It is something we did in Kalamazoo and Peoria while working for Adams.  It started in Grand Rapids while working for Gannett which is now OUTFRONT.  Our GM, Jim Johnson, consented to funding and providing manpower to the idea for a community wide OOH Christmas Creative Contest.

We visited the local colleges in the area and presented to the graphics arts classes on the design of OOH. Our artist at the time, Dick Van Haften, of VAN HAFTEN & ASSOCIATES,  provided the instruction aspect in OOH design. Contest guidelines were set and students in the community were given a two week deadline to create and submit a design where the winning submission appeared on the street as painted bulletin located at a prime location, as well as on company Christmas cards. We awarded prizes and recommendations. Newspaper and TV news provided coverage. It helped considerably that we invited Agency and Brand leaders to serve as judges, where they were served lunch and visited our facilities. (The ‘paint shop’ was a fascinating tour for them)

No matter how you do it, share the career opportunities and OOH story to students in your community. They are the next generation of OOH leaders.

If you are doing something in this regards. Please send us a note.
