Global has won the advertising contract for Gatwick Airport for a further five years, retaining its position as the UK’s largest airport media owner.

As one of the biggest airports in the UK, Gatwick served over 46 million passengers every year pre-COVID and offered flights to more destinations than any other UK airport. Global has exclusive advertising rights throughout the airport, offering advertisers access to innovative solutions in a premium environment as well as insight into international and domestic audiences.

The advertising inventory at Gatwick includes a Welcome Arch that’s visible to all arriving and departing passengers, state of the art large format digital screens throughout the airport, high impact displays located in the heart of the International Departure Lounge, and ‘The Gatwick Shuttle Domination’ – a unique opportunity to dominate the train shuttle service between terminals with travellator wraps, platform displays, on-board digital screens and audio, and more.

Chris Forrester, Director of Commercial, Outdoor at Global, said: “Having our advertising contract with Gatwick renewed for another five years is testament to the dedication and expertise within the outdoor teams here at Global. We love connecting brands with people, and as the travel industry continues to thrive following the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, airports are a great environment to engage with a captive audience and to inspire travellers as they pass through.”

Gatwick’s Nick Williams, Head of Retail Operations, said: “We are proud of the environment we offer to advertisers, enabling them to reach audiences when they are at their most engaged. We have exciting plans to further develop the advertising estate over the coming years which we believe will create an even stronger platform for advertisers to inspire our passengers. We look forward to working with Global for another five years and seeing the impactful and creative advertising campaigns across the airport.”

According to travel trends experts ForwardKeys, UK airports are expected to see passenger numbers reach 85-90% of 2019 figures this summer.

Also, Global’s own research, conducted in partnership Geosophy revealed that airport advertising has a significant impact on purchasing behaviors. 47% of the study’s participants said they have been prompted to research something they’ve seen advertised at an airport, 45% have been prompted to purchase something, and 44% have made a note of an advert for the future.

Global is the only media owner with a national airport advertising portfolio that reaches 143 million international passengers every year.  The media owner represents London Gatwick, Luton and Stansted, Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Southampton, Southend, Prestwick, and Guernsey.
