Summer fun, summer mobility! Geopath’s Mobility DMA reports are back.
Now that we’re in the full swing of summer travel, let’s look at some of the national mobility trends for the first half of 2022! (Note: the data represented here cover through June 30th, 2022)
When looking at the percentage of those who leave their homes daily, we can see that 2022 is trending very closely to 2019’s numbers, the last “standard” year before the pandemic. In contrast to the sharp decline in 2020, both 2021 and 2022 show an upward trend in overall trips outside the home.
An interesting shift in movement patterns can be found when looking at the average of all trips, which include commute, errand, and other trip types.
Aside from a high peak in the start of 2020, the average of all trips is higher this year than it was in both 2021 and 2019. As we create some distance from the early pandemic’s low mobility trends, it will be interesting to see what the new standard for movement will look like across the country!
