Who Knew Billboards Had Their Own Playlist?

What if your next billboard playlist was already hiding in plain sight?

Richard Martin, owner of Outdoor Advertising Development Services, stumbled onto a brilliantly simple idea: find the songs that reference billboards, signs and the world of advertising—and put them all together.

It started with The Lucksmiths’ “If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home Now,” a favorite track whose title happens to sound like it was written for a billboard. A limited red-vinyl repress of the 2005 album this June got Martin thinking: How many other songs reference the cultural symbolism of billboards?

Turns out, 111.

Some are obvious. Some are unexpected. And, according to Martin, a handful are genuinely great.

The result is a playlist that might just be the best damn soundtrack for driving past OOH—because who would have thought the billboard industry had its own musical genre hiding in plain sight?

Listen to the favorites of the playlist and decide for yourself: What’s your Billboard music?

Listen to the 111-song inspired Billboard playlist on Spotify.
