“When the Motor Stops”

If you are looking for an uplifting, thought driven positivism, mixed with a dose of reality, this is it.  Detroit advertising agency Doner, created a video focused on Detroit describing the impact of social distancing. There is no Outdoor Advertising though it is all Out of Home.  I doubt Doner in house director, Zeke Anders, had the slightest concern for OOH when he made the video.  As he shouldn’t.

“If he were alive today, even Henry himself would have put it in park.”

For me, it was made for Outdoor Advertising and only needed a couple of billboard displays for OOH to own it.  The creative work ties together what everyone should be doing, while serving, from an OOH perspective, as an example of what the Outdoor Industry could be doing for itself at this moment: That is, recognizing the reality of empty highways and the sacrifice required to winning this COVID-19 war.

‘When the Motor Stops’  hits home to all of us, whether a native of Detroit or like myself, a Michigander or a member of the human race. There is so much wonderfully well written dialogue in the 1 minute 22 second video, its worth listening to more than once. The black and white imagery of America’s Motor City offer easily recognizable landmarks.

If you are looking for an uplifting, thought driven positivism, mixed with a dose of reality, this is it.

A few of my favorite copy lines (some paraphrased) are below. What are yours?

Vacant Streets. Empty Stadiums, is a sign of our resolve.

Sitting out the fight is how we will win it.

“If he were alive today, even Henry himself would have put it in park.”

It’s time for america’s motor to stop.

“We stop in the name of love.”
