Soofa Releases Timely Air Quality Widget in Partnership with Boston Environment Department

Solar-powered digital kiosk adds new functionality that provides residents throughout the Boston area with up-to-date air quality information

CAMBRIDGE, MA,  — Soofa, the leading supplier of solar-powered digital kiosks used as both a smart city communication tool and an out-of-home (OOH) advertising platform, today released a new air quality feature, providing Boston residents with timely updates about air quality and recommendations for outdoor activity based on the conditions. In light of the Canadian wildfires, which have resulted in poor air quality conditions across large parts of the United States this summer, this update is instrumental in providing citizens with equitable access to vital health information.

“This cutting-edge widget is designed to safeguard public health by providing real-time observed air quality data and forecasts using information from more than 2,000 monitoring stations,” said Jacques de Kock, Soofa’s Head of Engineering. “As we strive to make a positive impact, Soofa wants to ensure that the people of Boston can access crucial air quality information and stay protected wherever they are.”

“We’re excited to partner with Soofa to increase accessibility of live air quality information and help Bostonians make educated decisions to protect themselves from the harmful effects of air pollution,” said Maria Rodriguez Ortega, Air Quality Project Manager with the City of Boston Environment Department. “Air pollution affects everyone, but it disproportionately impacts environmental justice communities. This initiative is one of many strategies to help the City of Boston close this gap.”

The addition of this new air quality widget serves as another innovative communication asset for the city of Boston to put into action across their fleet of solar-powered Soofa Signs. Expansion of the air quality widget into additional Soofa Signs across the country is expected later this year as Soofa’s partner communities seek to provide ease-of-access to important information related to the health and wellbeing of their constituents.
