Lamar Green, Verde, Senese, Southeast, Geopath and Crazy Ivan

by Brent Baer, Publisher, OOH Today

It has been too long since we did a ‘Word on the Street’.
It’s been a hectic last 30 days for many of us. Business is near summer swoon, and the press releases are cranking. Imagine if PR and Marketing were busting it when business is booming?

Let me share what we’ve come across on our desks over the last few weeks.

Cryptic by design, these are my opinions and credible rumors on the streets of the OOH Industry. Please refrain from taking any rash actions after reading.
I know that you will have your own opinions, and I look forward to your comments on any one of the subjects.

  1. Today’s official OOH color is GREEN. You know, like the green logo of Lamar, and for our Spanish-speaking friends, it’s called Verde.
Did you know that in English, “Verde” translates to green? By definition, it can be used to describe the color green, or in more specific contexts, such as unripe fruit, inexperienced individuals, or in political terms (referring to the Green Party).
  2. An OOH deal is being finalized in the Southeast that we can’t discuss. So, please don’t ask.
  3. Jodi Senese— She beat us to the punch by announcing it today. But in case you missed it, Jodi Senese, the long-standing CMO at OUTFRONT, has announced her retirement. Forty-four years in the business. Her legacy and impact on the industry will be remembered. We wish her well.
  4. Have the ‘powers to be’ finally landed on a Geopath full-time President? The industry is abuzz with this news, and we are hearing it’s down to a matter of crossing the ‘t’s and dotting the ‘i’s.
  5. Finally, here is a ‘Crazy Ivan‘ for today’s ‘OOH Word on the Street’. This is a term we use for the unexpected. Just because it came through as an official memo doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen. All I can say is, wait for it.
