OOH …Here’s One Thing

One Thing Leads to Another

When a hedge fund demi god talks, I usually shut down.  Call me a wimp, but the Alpha Male on steroids is not my bag, baby.  I know, I know.  The show “Billions” is so much fun.  I get it.  But have you ever considered trying to hang with that guy in real life?  I have.  2008.  The world just blew up and this guy I was having dinner with just happened to step on a horseshoe which got lodged in his backend (aka he sold his fund of funds to the Japanese the year before for an ungodly sum).  Direct quote “I got mine…I don’t give a shit what happens to the rest of the world”.  Dude, did you really just say that?

Anyway, not much to report this week except for, ironically, a pretty cool quote from one of the biggest hedge fund whales out there, Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Capital:  “If nothing bad is happening to you now, wait a bit and it will.  That is just reality.  My approach to life is that it is what it is and the important thing is for me to figure out what to do about it and not spend time moaning about how I wish it were different.  Winston Churchill hit the nail on the head when he said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”  You will come to enjoy this process of careening between success and failure because it will determine your trajectory.

It makes no sense to get frustrated when there’s so much that you can do, and when life offers so many things to savor.  Your path through any problem is outlined in these principals – and in others you’ll discover yourself.  There’s nothing you can’t accomplish if you think creatively and have the character to do the difficult things.”

Huh?  Is that a hedge fund kingpin or the Dalai Lama talking?

In any event, I will leave you to your thoughts and this song.   Wishing you all a good week.  And since the week kicks off with Dia de los Muertos, carpe diem.

“You see dimensions in two
State your case with black or white
But when one little cross leads to shots, grit your teeth
You run for cover so discreet, why don’t they

Do what they say, say what you mean, and baby
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong, I know I listen too long but then
One thing leads to another”  (The Fixx, 1982)
