As we reach the end of 2021, there are many moments to reflect on throughout the year. However, let’s instead take a look back through history at the celebration of New Year’s itself!

Did you know that the first New Year’s celebration dates back over 4,000 years, to Julius Caesar? Caesar was the first to declare January 1st a national celebration, naming the month after the Roman god Janus. Janus was said to have two faces – one looking forward and one looking back – thus the perfect choice for a holiday centered on reflection and new resolutions!

Traditionally, it is said to be good luck to eat legumes like beans and peas on New Year’s. These legumes are thought to look like coins, symbolizing prosperity into the New Year.

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy New Year! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2022.
