JCDecaux, Should “put up or shut up!” Says Clear Channel Boss

Clear Channel’s chief executive, unceremoniously told The Daily Telegraph, he has had enough of the persistent rumors on whether the French outdoor advertising giant, JCDecaux, will buy his firm.

According to the UK’s newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, William Eccleshare, CEO of Clear Channel Outdoor, said, “JCDecaux should put up or shut up.”  Eccleshare says it only serves to destabilize the market.

Many of us have been through a number of OOH mergers and acquisitions and rumors of sale or purchase. What we learned then, as it is today; sell your ass off and ignore the lip service. Most importantly, put on your game face with clients and advertisers and never let them see you sweat.

Point is, if you are sweating over it, don’t show it and sure as hell, don’t say anything about it.
Offer zero indication your’e the least bit concerned.

Clear Channel CCO’s Eccelshare may be showing a bead of perspiration. The best solution for CCO and Eccleshare?  Go out and kick Decaux butt for every dollar, on every deal, every day. Save the comments for champagne toasts and victory speeches.

‘Never let them see you sweat!’  The Gillette Company is credited with creating that slogan for its Dry Idea antiperspirant back in 1984.  It is an effective comment to caution one to stay calm in the face of opposition.  See the Former Denver Broncos NFL Coach Dan Reeves Commercial below
