OAAA shares the conference agenda, Lockridge Outdoor Divests its San Antonio Assets, Vistar drops a new course on pDOOH, Departure Secures Des Moines. Here’s a weekly recap of the top OOH stories you may have missed, along with colorful commentary from BB for the week ending April 6, 2024.

1. Here’s the 2024 OOH Media Conference Agenda

The OOH Media Conference is just one month away. The agenda for the conference has been released. What are the top events you are looking forward to at this year’s conference?

B.B.’s Take: I’m curious as to what events and sessions our readers want to attend, which you are most excited about, and what you think will be questionable to attend. Will you be at the yoga event? ;))  What ever your thoughts, we’ll be there and hope to see you there as well. Less than 30 days away!   Register now if you haven’t. This is a must attend event.

2. Lockridge Outdoor Advertising Divests San Antonio Monument Displays to MH Outdoor

This was a story so big that we ignored our usual newsletter time of 5:00am and sent out the news as soon as we knew. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Lockridge is a preeminent developer of OOH assets. The company has developed locations in 20 states. Based in Houston, MH Outdoor is a large regional OOH company. They have assets throughout Texas and the Southeast and have built a strong position in central Texas. This acquisition fits their strategy of acquiring tuck-in displays in growth markets throughout their footprint.

B.B.’s Take: On my flight to Louisville for the IBO Conference, I sat behind the MH, Marshall Henderson, from MH Outdoor and we chatted for a few more minutes than most. I’ve known him for more than 10 years.  Marshall is great guy with tremendous experience and truly knows OOH. He did not say one word about deal. I don’t blame him, the ink was still wet and not ready for official or public consumption. It was not public until a few days later. We can’t get all the scoops. Congrats Marshall.

3.“Accelerate: Selling DOOH” —Vistar’s New Academy Learning Certification

Vistar Media has introduced a new free educational resource that gives participants the tools they need to sell Programmatic Digital Out-of-Home (PDOOH). The new certification “Accelerate: Selling Digital Out-of-Home” is available on Vistar Academy, a learning platform. This certification is a follow-up to “Accelerate: Foundations of DOOH.” The course teaches strategies for positioning and embracing pDOOH to address clients’ needs and goals.

B.B.’s Take: Learning academy to sell programmatic?  And Programmatic is suppose to be the easy button to light the OOH Industry to phenomenal and world record breaking revenues?  It’s so easy, the Industry needs an educational resource to give tools to participants? This is the third organization which is providing ‘Learning Certifications’ for programmatic? Doesn’t sound to easy too me.

4.Departure Secures Des Moines

After a competitive bid process, Departure Media won the airport advertising concessions contract for Des Moines International Airport (DSM). Departure Media will manage the advertising program’s design, implementation, sales, and maintenance across the airport terminal. This is Departure Media’s first step into the Iowa market. Their other Midwest clients include Kansas City International Airport, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, and Dayton International Airport.

B.B.’s Take: Congrats to Departure. Airport advertising is still a bit off from Covid days not so past. This makes me wonder if the ‘smaller airports’ are any more successful than the ‘larger ones’ in schlepping their space.  Based on the few airports I have flown through recently, Louisville, Charlottesville and Buffalo, it appears they are fairing significantly better than the larger ones, I have recently connected through ATL, DTW, IAD LGA and ORD.
