Storm aid, AI controversies and patented parked car billboards. A weekly recap of the top OOH stories you may have missed and colorful commentary from BB for the week ending October 12, 2024.

1. Free PSAs to Promote Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief in NC

Hurricane season is upon us, with Hurricane Helene having devasted communities in North Carolina. The Red Cross, National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, and other organizations are seeking donations.

Camel City Posters has created Public Service Announcements urging donations that are free for use. Read the article at the link above to download the images.

B.B.’s Take: This is an easy one to get behind. If you can help raise dollars via your units for the recovery of a disaster zone, why not?  Touch base with Vinny at Camel City.

2. AI and Digital OOH: What Are the Possibilities/Limitations

But what are the ethical implications of using AI in digital OOH? What if the bot says something terrible? Is that worth the benefits?

We live in complicated times. Can we trust AI to navigate them?

B.B.’s Take: This point by Rodolfo I think is the crux of concern: “…the appeal of AI advertising is automating it so you don’t have to think about it, in the early days, it will need to be heavily monitored so that stupid statements don’t go up on a billboard.

3. Transforming Parked Cars Into Digital Billboards

Quantum OOH has been developing a new advertising product that they say will help get OOH into areas with limited inventory. They are transforming parked cars into digital billboards.

They say the billboards will bypass limited inventory, cluttered visibility, and wasted budgets by using parked cars in high-traffic areas. The company leverages the gig economy for its sales, real estate, and vehicle partnerships. Their patents are granted and their products are ready for launch.

B.B.’s Take: This is a new take on the taxi topper.  Let the car ‘sit’ parked in high profile places. Or those locations which are in strategic areas and lack OOH coverage. Run the video. Sounds like a successful idea.
