Let me get right to it. Did one of our Titans just take a sledgehammer to the industry’s “good housekeeping seal of approval”…or did one of my hearing aids just malfunction? Wow. I mean wow. Nobody else hear the explosion or are we just pretending all is okay like we usually do?
“You could have a steam train
If you’d just lay down your tracks
You could have an aeroplane flying
If you bring your blue sky back”
Aka, you’re dreaming if you think we are putting that Genie back in the bottle. Hats off to the hammer. The question is why now? I mean as much as I loved Ken Sammon, I wasn’t much impressed with the place at that time either…and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. But then again in this broglio, I realize I matter as much as the choice of toilet paper at Hard Rock Stadium.
So with that as the set up, may I ask a dumb question? Why have a group of vendors, since before God made rock, been underwriting an “unbiased” rating system that buyers rely on to make sure they are not getting ripped off (or at least to defend their purchases if called on the carpet by their client)? I am sure I have missed this and that and bla bla bla, and please call me crazy, but if I were a buyer and really wanted to do my job with voracity, which is to buy the right audience, with the best stuff, at the best price for my client, wouldn’t I want a rating system that me and my fellow buyers built, paid for, managed and refined over time? I know, I know, legacy and all that jazz. But are we still that desperate for a date? If so, maybe we can lend them the money, and they can Venmo us back?
Wheel in the howitzer and let me have it. ‘Cause then I would know that we are getting somewhere.
