Remembering Julia Reagan’s legacy, the Cannes Winners, and House of the Dragon “burning billboard” concept. A weekly recap of the top OOH stories you may have missed, along with colorful commentary from BB for the week ending June 22, 2024.
1. Reagan Outdoor Matriarch, Julia Reagan Passes On
On June 12, 2024, Reagan Outdoor Advertising matriarch Julia Reagan passed away at 81. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was a dedicated student who earned a Ph. D. from the University of Utah. Julia met her husband, William Kevin Reagan, in 1965. They shared 58 years of marriage, filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories.
Bill and Julia were truly soulmates, rarely apart for long during their 58 years of marriage. They met while Julia was completing her Ph.D. through a prestigious NIH fellowship. Both supported each other while simultaneously Julia completed her PhD, Bill completed law school and started Reagan Outdoor Advertising, also during this time they had two children!
Her legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and family will continue inspiring all who knew her.
B.B.’s Take: Behind every great man is a great woman.
2. Bet You Can Hardly Wait, The Cannes OOH Winners
Two Grand Prix Lions were awarded in the Outdoor category this year, along with 10 Gold, 18 Silver and 27 Bronze.
A Grand Prix went to LOLA Mullenlowe, Madrid, for its Magnum Ice Cream campaign ‘Find Your Summer.” The second went to Pedigree’s campaign, ‘Adoptable by Pedigree,” by Colenso BBDO, Auckland, New Zealand.
B.B.’s Take: If this is the best in OOH, as an Industry we’re doomed. Telling it like it is.
3. BINGE and House of the Dragon fuse fantasy and reality in Australian Out-of-Home first
B.B.’s Take: Great creative speaks for itself.
