Ooh ahh adingra: Paddy Power gives Ireland a team at the World Cup
Paddy Power & BBH Dublin launch World Cup OOH
Dublin, Ireland may have missed out on the World Cup, but the greatest fans in the world can still have skin in the game, thanks to Paddy Power.
A new tactical advertising campaign created by BBH Dublin encourages Ireland fans to support Ivory Coast; all because the team’s flag mirrors the Irish tricolour.
Ireland’s hopes of World Cup qualification were dashed in a penalty shoot-out against Czechia in March, leaving fans of the Boys in Green at a loss for who to support during the tournament.
Now Paddy Power is stepping in with a campaign calling for Irish fans to support the Ivorians, swapping the green, white and orange for orange, green and white.
A digital outdoor and retail campaign created by BBH Dublin will proudly fly the Irish flag far and wide, just in reverse. A simple flip on the typical football poster, ensuring no fan is left without a team.
Marcos Gemal, Executive Creative Director at BBH Dublin says: “Paddy Power is famed for its irreverent take on world events, and now they’re upping the ante by giving Irish fans a last minute World Cup substitute.”
Paul Mallon, Head of Sportsbook Marketing at Paddy Power says: “We wanted to have a bit of fun on home turf this World Cup so we thought, why not lend our voice to a fellow team in green, white and orange. And sure isn’t everything a bit backwards with the tournament anyway?”
Launching to coincide with the start of the World Cup, the campaign will run on digital outdoor sites in Dublin, as well as in print in the Sunday Independent and The Sun.
Activity will run during Ivory Coast matches when the team plays Ecuador on 15th June, Germany on the 20th and Curaçao on the 25th.
