OOH …Here’s One Thing
Here Comes the Sun

I have nothing to say today, but the publisher is a slave driver…so I will just ramble. First, first. I drove four hours from Luxembourg to Amsterdam on Friday and saw some interesting Ocean Outdoor signs between Brussels and Amsterdam on the A4 (A19…A20…etc). I have included a couple of pictures below (as well as a bus shelter ad from Luxembourg City). Long short I am not sure if I like Ocean’s format better or not. It’s much squarer than our 14x48s and in many cases, they have tilted the screen downward towards the roadway. Like I said, interesting… but not sure I like it as much. I will give them (or whoever they acquired) credit for gobbling up tons of real estate and having a near “m” on this route. (I learned early in my outdoor career that I am never allowed to say that word). Welcome your thoughts about this modern European format.
Thanks for the scouting report Johnsen, but what’s with the song? Well, 4 hours from Luxembourg to Amsterdam, I had some windshield time. Ricky Lee Jones, ‘Horses” came over the horn on my Spotify and I thought to myself, that could be the one.
“We will fly
Way up high
Where the cold wind blows
Or in the sun
Laughing having fun
With all the people that she knows
And if the situation
Should keep us separated
You know the world won’t fall apart
And you will free the beautiful bird
That’s caught inside your heart”

And then within a few minutes, God knows how, I was listening to Eric Clapton talk about how George Harrison came over to his place one incredibly sunny morning in the early spring of 1969 and gave birth to “Here Comes The Sun” right before his eyes, in his backyard. He said it was one of the most incredible things he had ever seen, and this is Eric Clapton talking mind you. Then the song came on and I said, that is DEFINITELY the one.
“Little darlin’, it’s been a long, cold, lonely winter
Little darlin’, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s alright
Little darlin’, the smile’s returning to their faces
Little darlin’, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s alright
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes”

Thanks for the music lesson, but what do you mean “the one”? Well, your mind can go funny places on a drive, and I started to think about what song I wanted at my funeral. “Here Comes The Sun” would do just fine, don’t you think?
Jeez Johnsen, you really know how to bring the fun on a Monday morning. Well, it’s an absolute…and irrefutable fact that each of us will be exiting this flying saucer in the near future. As they say, no one gets out alive. Or as George Harrison once said, and I quote loosely “I have been preparing my soul to leave my body for most of my life”.
Man, buzz kill. …Not really. We all have a bunch of sunny days to look forward to. The U.S. is still one of the greatest countries in the world. The first quarter is almost over and it feels like the sun is coming out for the ad biz. Carpe Diem.
