Good Night Coca-Cola
This old ‘Enjoy Coca-Cola’ billboard in San Francisco
is coming down.
Sign face and structure removal are underway this week. The reason, according to Coca-Cola spokeswoman Dora Wong, via SFGate, is the high lease cost. The bucks must really be up there for Coke to pull the plug and fork over $100,000+ covering the cost of removal of the 112 foot high display.
Built in 1937, this iconic sign, located at 701 Bryant St. (Bryant and 5th St.) has been a beacon for travelers driving the freeway to and from the Bay Bridge. Soon to be destroyed, the Coca-Cola / San Francisco sign, like many others across the country, ironically will never be enjoyed again. Soon to be another landmark lost forever.
