Give a moment of thanks for the incredible collaboration you give
…and the incredible collaboration you get
OOH …Here’s One Thing
by Jim Johnsen,
Managing Director, Johnsen, Fretty & Company
Just finished the Apple documentary on Scorsese. If you are a fan of Goodfellas, I would highly recommend it. In the way off the mark, by the way…my freshman roommate had a quick cameo in that movie: https://youtu.be/-xG3UGetZro?si=kIM0_W2kOowBVXrP.
After watching that series, I had a lightbulb moment. I realized that Scorsese would never have been Scorsese without De Niro, and that De Niro would never have been De Niro without Scorsese. I mean, individually, both Champions. But together? Holy Merde.
Some of the best pictures ever made. Need a reminder? Here are a few:
1. Mean Streets (have not seen it, but it’s now on my short list)
2. Taxi Driver
3. New York, New York
4. Raging Bull
5. The King of Comedy
6. Goodfellas
7. Cape Fear
8. Casino
9. The Irishman (see my earlier post)
10. Killers of the Flower Moon
Johnsen, thanks for the Siskel and Ebert (again showing my age), but get on with it. What’s the point?
Well, it got me ruminating. Isn’t there always a De Niro to a Scorsese? Can you think of a single business, or division, or department, or whatever…in which a partner or a supporting role doesn’t amplify one man’s (or woman’s) greatness? Steve Jobs – Steve Wozniak, Warren Buffet – Charlie Munger, Jack Welch – Gary Wendt, Lee Iacocca – Hal Sperlich, Bill Gates – Paul Allen, Tom Brady – Bill Belichick (okay just making sure you are still awake)…and closer to home, Bill Levine – Arte Moreno, Arte Moreno – Wally Kelly, Karl Eller – Stevie Eller, Kevin Reilly Jr – Sean Reilly…and the beat goes on. I think you get the picture.
So here is the message. Put this little blog down, look around the room, and take a moment to reflect on the incredible collaboration you give…and the incredible collaboration you get. Your efforts are what make us successful, and we should all be proud of that. Channel that every day, and you will make some incredible music. “Gimme Shelter” by The Rolling Stones https://youtu.be/RbmS3tQJ7Os?si=HzWtIdpYerXjvLuE
