OBIE awards submissions are open, Prebid opens to DOOH, and Atomic Prop sells. A weekly recap of the top OOH stories you may have missed and colorful commentary from BB for the week ending September 21, 2024.

1. Call For Entries: 83rd Annual OBIE Awards Now Open for Submissions

The Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA) announced that entries are open for The 83rd Annual OBIE Awards. Since 1942, the OBIE awards have honored the best designs in the OOH industry.

This year The Student OBIE Awards, returns for its second year. It is open to students who are enrolled in programs related to advertising and design.

The OBIE Awards will be presented during the 2025 OOH Media Conference,  May 5-7, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. For more information on categories, eligibility, and submission guidelines, see here. The deadline for entry is December 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM ET.

B.B.’s Take: Everyone loves OBIES and you’re best OOH design may just be the one for 2025. Get it together now, before the Holidays begin. Submit before December, 31 2024. 

2. Prebid Announces Support for DOOH with Successful Proof of Concept

 Prebid.org oversees open source Prebid programmatic advertising solutions. They now support DOOH and have successful tested their framework. Hivestack by Perion and Intersection were the first to test the Prebid ecosystem successfully. Now other SSPs can build adapters into Prebid’s pipes.

This will allow DOOH SSPs to open up their inventory directly to omni-channel, vertical DSPs who have a Prebid server adapter. Prebid announced it would test DOOH initially in 2022.

B.B.’s Take: ‘Prebid.’  Auction. Auction. Auction. “A more competitive and dynamic auction environment.” “…unified auction framework for programmatic DOOH trading,…”  You like auctions for your inventory?

3. Atomic Props Acquired by Experiential Marketing Firm

B.B.’s Take: Does anyone else see this as a significant news story? Atomic Props for as long as I have been in the business, which coincidently we both started at the same time, has been acquired by experiential company, NPARALLEL.  I have no idea who they are, other than from our recent post. From my perspective, Atomic Props has been the undisputed leader in producing massive 3-D props for the OOH Industry. If one wanted it done right, Atomic Props was the choice for success. It will be interesting to see what NPARALLEL does with the recent acquisition.
