Clear Channel Decaux Major Deal Collapses, and the Rise of Retail Media Networks
OOH Today Weekend Update

Clear Channel expands Programmatic, deal falls through and Retail Media Networks are the next big thing. A weekly recap of the top OOH stories you may have missed and colorful commentary from BB for the week ending November 2, 2024.
1. After 17 Months of Regulatory Process Clear Channel Spain Sale Terminated

Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Inc. has announced that JCDecaux SE will not longer acquire the company’s business in Spain. JCDecaux withdrew its regulatory filing with the Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission due to the commission’s requirements. CCO will keep operating its business in Spain, but remains focused on executing its strategic priorities in its America and Airports segments.
B.B.’s Take: 17 months passes and the deal falls through? How does this deal not managed for the desired goal? The Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission ( CNMC) didn’t just become an entity 17 months ago? No, it began in 2013. Plenty of track record to KNOW what to expect and work through. Plenty of time to make the opportunity to succeed with the regulations and requirements of the CNMC. When was the last time you heard of an OOH deal fail because of the Department of Justice in the States? Zero to Hero? or Hero to Zero more like it.
2. Is In-store Retail Media Networks …the next frontier of DOOH?

B.B.’s Take: Retail media networks have been around a long time. New Frontier? Ah, because it’s Digital OOH in retail media networks.
